Entering the Work World 101: Corporate Realities, Corporate Opportunities

Jodi graduated cum laude, was an excellent student and spent every summer since her freshman year doing interns at accounting firms. She graduated, was recruited by a Top 4 accounting firm and had a job the day after she got her diploma. She was smart, articulate and had an intense work ethic.

Her first week was a walk in the park, with a lot of time in “meet and greet, plus a night or two of late hours. It seemed like a good fit. Week 2 hit like a tsunami without warning. A surging, sky-high wall of papers, to-dos, deadlines and deliverables smashed into her work area like a freight train that never stopped chugging. She worked 14, 16, 18 hours a day, for weeks on end. After several months, the shining star was dim, distressed and severely disillusioned. She was baffled, “Why would a company treat its people so poorly?”

Welcome to the Work World, a conglomeration of people and priorities that combine to build “success” of all types. It is Survival of the Fittest in all its glory; It’s “stomp, romp and chomp” your way to the top. It becomes central station for stress, anxiety, fear, anger. Resentment.

As a new college graduate, you’ll find all types of companies and places to work. You’ll experience the worst and usually the best.

Good companies do exist. There are companies that treat employees like people, no matter your title or position. These companies understand the Profitability Equation: Companies that treat their employees well usually win the end game, long term. Cut-throat companies who abuse their employees ultimately cut their own throats by mistreating their people.

The Job You Want, Where You Want It

A good job pays you respectfully, treats you respectfully and offers more than money. It’s about what you do, who you’re with, company benefits and even little perks that make you feel like a contributor.

Creative thinkers at companies seek ways to build teams and rapport. Benefits-wise, this may be Flex Time, where you can work specific hours and/or specific days, or compressed weeks. This is when companies choose to work 12-hour days, Monday through Thursday, with Fridays off.  Other creative options include onsite childcare, pets at work, tuition reimbursement and, our favorite, on-site massage. How would you like to know that one day a week, you can walk down to the fifth floor of Company ABC and get a free 15-minute chair massage, courtesy of your company? Mobile massage is a growing trend in corporate America!

It helps you. It helps the company. We’d even bet it helps your department team dynamics and how you feel when you leave work, go play, see your friends or parents.

Lastly, let us just say we’re proud that Google was recognized as #1 in corporate reputation, not because it is well trusted, admired or respected. It achieved the ranking in the annual Harris Interactive poll of corporate reputation largely for its favorable workplace environment that includes play rooms, a gourmet cafeteria and on-site massages, and more.

Find your job at a place that treats you well, trains you well and knows that every individual is an asset. Review their benefits and examine their creativity. Even mention how alternative benefits can mean a lot to employees without costing a lot, even if it’s just a “Special Celebrate Employees Day.”

You can find a great job. Just keep on trying and manage that job search well. When it gets to be too much, go get a massage.

It helps. Really.

Student Advisors Can Benefit Students with Class Advice—Health Advice Too

From freshman orientation to advice on curriculum and career choices, the student adviser plays a key role in the progress of on-campus student life.

For newbies, early college life is an emotional roller-coaster of excitement, anxiety, highs and lows, new friends and no friends.

For students acclimated to life on campus, there are different stressors, no less severe. Data prove it:

  • Student suicides still total some 1,100 a year nationwide. It is the second leading cause of death among college students after motor-vehicle accidents. One in 10 college students has considered taking his or her own life, according to The Jed Foundation, a New York City-based college suicide-prevention program.
  • Ninety-four percent of counseling directors reported an increase in students with severe psychological conditions, including depression, eating disorders, and drug and alcohol addictions, reports the 2009 National Survey of Counseling Directors.
  • In addition, 91 percent believe a greater number of students are arriving on campus already taking psychiatric medications.
  • In the past fifty years, the suicide rate for those age 15-24 increased by over 200 percent. About 12 people aged 15-24 will commit suicide today – that is one about every two hours.
  • Caucasians account for over 90 percent of all completed suicides. For African Americans, the rate of suicide is growing faster among young African Americans than among Caucasians. Suicide rates from 1980-1995 increased 93% for African American females (age 15-24) and 214% for African American males (age 15-24).
  • Native Americans have the highest suicide rate among all 15-24 year olds.

So what can colleges and student advisers do to stymie suicide, depression and mental illness overall? They can be as interested in delivering student support as they are with academic direction. They can take time to listen more and manage equilibrium between their primary job functions and what may mean life and death for a student. We applaud student advisers for all they do, but more can be done.

Another step is to stomp the shame that comes with depression, suicidal thoughts and even addiction. That means directing students to professional psychiatric counselors and physicians. But there’s also a to-do that’s always overlooked, despite being so obvious.
It’s overall health and wellness—eating habits, exercise, stress relief—even building a set of friends.

Stress relief is our mission. That’s why we do mobile massage. And that’s why we travel to colleges. We set up our chairs, our massage areas and deliver what can eliminate stiff necks and sore muscles. We usually do chair massage. Students can breathe sighs of relief and just STOP the pace of college life. Our licensed and certified massage therapists don’t show up with dollar signs in their eyes. They’re genuine, professional and readily chat with students.

Advisers, keep advising and do the best job you can. Keep on showing your interest and concern for students. But also look for the signs that may save lives.

It really can.

The ceremonies, family gatherings and pleasantries are in full throttle. Just how many gathering are there? But enjoy and relish the fact that you’ve graduated after four long years of school. You’ve got your degree. And you career pursuits are on.

You’re at home, you change into your favorite jammies and crash on the couch. What times does “Glee” come on? So many thoughts, anxieties and questions—jobs, apartments, autos. Paychecks.

A bubbling volcano is active. It rolls up through the legs, back, arms, fingers, neck and shoulders and explodes into back of your head, screaming like a fire-hot Van Halen concert. Likely diagnosis: s-t-re-s-s.

Real Variety. Massage isn’t always just the neck or shoulders, nor is always lying on the bed, being partially disrobed, with a complete body massage. There are also added relaxation services and techniques. We’ve listed a few.

The Chair Massage. This is our most common service. The purpose of chair massage is to provide stress relief for our participants. Massage is a great way to introduce or continue the lifelong process of doing something healthy for one’s self that feels great. The Oxygen Bar. An Oxygen Bar is the perfect added attraction to any massage event. Each station has scent-filled oxygen giving each person a breath of fresh air to stimulate their senses. We have different oxygen bar stations to accommodate various amounts of people at a time.

So, when graduation gets you and your friends stiff and stressed, you know the graduation gift that keeps giving. Tell family. Tell friends. Massages really matter.

Help Your Friends Relax With A Neck Massage

When days have passed and you are still cramming for your finals, its common place for stress and aches to take hold in your body. When hours have gone by and you’re hunched over a laptop or a book studying, it’s more often than not that these aches manifest themselves in the neck and shoulder regions. It’s quite common to tell if someone is stressed because their neck and shoulder muscles are incredibly tense, when in reality they should be relaxed.

A great way to relieve the stress and tension from the area is through a well performed neck massage. A neck massage will not only relieve the muscles it will also make you feel better and hopefully help you shed some of that stress too. This article will take you through how to give a great neck massage to someone else. If you are lucky, someone will return the favor.

1.       If you have a massage chair available then have your friend sit in that, but the chances are you don’t. In that case have your friend sit in a normal straight back chair instead.

2.       Have your friend sit with his or her back firmly against the back of chair and sit upright to give you access to their neck and shoulders.

3.       Start by massaging the lower sections of your friend’s shoulders. Use a firm circular motion with the palms and fingers of your hands.

4.       Massage the shoulders with your elbows as well, by rubbing them across the largest muscles of the shoulders in a circular motion once again.

5.       Once completed, it’s time to move onto the neck area. You will want to start by kneading the lower portions of their neck around their shoulders. Start at the bottom and move up, ever so slightly. You should periodically give the entire neck a once over during this period. Once you reach the base of the skull head back down the neck to the shoulders.

6.       Repeat the above steps as many times as it takes to feel a difference in the tightness in the shoulders. Change the direction in which you massage your friend’s neck and shoulders to give a thorough massage.

The idea with a massage is to be firm but gentle; you wouldn’t want to hurt your friend. Ask them if you’re applying to much pressure periodically, and before long you will have it just perfect. Once you have finished with your friend it’s time for you to take the seat and reap the benefits of your labors with your very own neck massage.

4 Positive Ways Deal With Stress At College

Coping with stress at college is just part and parcel of earning your college degree. Trying to juggle a full course load, bustling social life and in some instances work can give college students their first real taste of the stress that comes in later life.  Even though stress is an inescapable part of college, it doesn’t necessarily have to become part of your everyday life. Stress that builds up can be detrimental to all aspects of student life, so we have put together some great positive ways to deal with stress when at college.

1.       Go out of the campus and have a walk or jog around the city or countryside. Just getting up and walking away from the situation is an amazing way to watch your stress levels drop. Being outdoors will help you deal with the stress that has built up from hunching over study books and computers.

2.       Have a massage. While trying to fit in a luxurious massage at a local spa may be too much of a time or money expenditure for yourself, getting a quick chair massage that you can comfortably fit into a break or lunch is an excellent opportunity to relax your mind and body and beat stress before it builds up.

3.       Instead of allowing the workflow to continually get on top of you, try spending some time to create a plan of action and stick to it. This often helps to reduce stress as you will have a plan of what to do when and also be able to schedule some down time during the day as well.

4.       Have a chat with a friend or for that matter anybody who will listen. That social interaction will help immensely. As humans we are very social creatures, and being stuck in a dim room studying all day causes a fair amount of stress. Communicating or spending time with someone else can be all you need to alleviate the stress.

Ultimately these are just positive ways in which to deal with stress, but they are very general. You may find you have a specific task, chore or hobby that you enjoy which will work better than any of the suggestions above. It’s all a case of finding the right things for you. The main thing is that you find a way to deal with stress in a positive way. Too often, students find that they are in over their head, or can’t handle the stress at a particular time, and as such engage in destructive behavior, from binge drinking to blowing off classes or dropping out. With time and stress management, this destructive behavior can be avoided.

Arranging Amazing Massage Parties For You And Your Sorority Sisters

Spending time with your girlfriends and sorority sisters is an essential part of college for many female students. It’s a great way to relax and rewind and more importantly it’s a way of creating new relationships and friendships that will support you through your years at college and beyond. A good girlfriend will be at your side whenever you need her for any problem. Whether you need to cry or moan or just need some study advice, they are always there for you. What could be better than thanking your closest friends by arranging massage parties for them? It’s a great way to strengthen those bonds you have built upon with your college sisters. How do you go about arranging a massage party then? Well you’re in luck today, as we have put together some ideas and advice on how to arrange an amazing massage party.

One of the very first things you will need to arrange are the massages, otherwise they wouldn’t be called massage parties. You can contact Massage on the Go USA for an amazing service that will come out to your venue and provide a great experience for all of your sisters.  With Massage on the Go you can expect excellent service where everyone will receive a luxurious chair massage by one of the experience and knowledgeable masseuses. You can also book a massage workshop from them too, where you and your friends will learn how to give each other simple yet relaxing massages for when you need them most.

Once you have the massages sorted it’s time to bolster the party with extra activities and things to do, to make it an incredible experience for everyone. There are a whole host of things you can do to make the day that little bit more special. Try to incorporate things you know your sisters would enjoy. Some ideas could be:

  • Doing manicures and pedicures for one another.
  • Renting a movie, buying some pizza and sitting down to watch the latest films.
  • Tell stories of past experiences.
  • Do makeovers for one another.
  • Go out shopping as a group.
  • Invite some more friends around and have an actual party to finish the night off.

The aim of the game with massage parties is to remove the stress of being a college student. You will feel revitalized after having a massage, and that is what many a student needs. Don’t forget to have a great day and enjoy your time with your beloved friends.

Seven Student Activity Ideas

There is nothing quite like kicking back after a long study session and relaxing in your dorm with friends. It’s a little reward for the hard work you have done, but over the course of college, kicking back and watching TV in the dorm will start to get boring fast. The best thing to spice up the atmosphere and reward yourself and others is to organize a social activity that you can all participate in.  Ideally a good social activity will involve as many people as possible, yet doing a more specific activity can be more rewarding for you.  Below are some student activity ideas that you may find enjoyable:

LAN Party – This is best for those studious dormitories but you can often be surprised by the amount of people who do enjoy a good computer game. It will be even more surprising when that unsuspecting cheerleader wins at Half Life.

Campus MassagesInvite Massage On The Go USA to provide everybody in your dormitory and campus a massage. This is always a great opportunity to bond with chums and is more than relaxing after a week of hard study.

Poker Night – Play a few rounds of Texas Hold Em’ with your friends. Be sure to include those who don’t know how to play by teaching them. That way the next time you have a poker night everyone can join in.

Movie Night – Watching TV on your own is boring, but watching the latest releases with your friends is so much more exciting. Bring some popcorn, soda and pizzas to have a real lazy yet enjoyable night in.

Board games – Competitive board games are always a great choice. While playing monopoly with your grandma was never fun, pitting your reputation as a business guru against others in a round of monopoly will be electrifying.

Scavenger Hunt – A scavenger hunt is a great way to get everybody out and about for an afternoon. It will require more planning than the other events but will be enjoyable for everybody who joins in. You could head to the local thrift stores to buy random, quirky and odd stuff for the scavenger hunt.

Go For Ice Cream – This will probably have the biggest turn out. Set up a night for everybody to go out to the local ice cream parlor and enjoy a night out eating sweet treats. This is a perfect opportunity to bond with people you haven’t already over a banana split.

When coming up with student activity ideas you will want to keep in mind the cost of the activities, ideally they need to be as cheap as possible and yet still remain enjoyable for as many people as possible. Most importantly have fun and relax!

Study Break Ideas That You Should Do And Should Avoid

When at college, more often than not you will find yourself sitting down for an inordinate amount of time trying to get as much studying done as possible; it’s pretty much a rite of passage for anybody attending college. It’s all good and well sitting down with a pot of coffee, the light on, all of your books and working for 5 hours straight. It does after all get the job accomplished, but at the same time it will start to takes its toll on your mind and body. The more that you commit without taking a break or rewarding yourself, the more you find the level and quality of your study decreases.

Our brains and bodies need a chance to recuperate after having to process so much information. To avoid these problems it is wise to take regular study breaks, where you do something that takes you away from the work and hopefully revitalizes you. It’s recommended that for every 50 minutes of study you take a 10 minute break, this makes it easy as you can divide your study periods up into nice hourly blocks.  This doesn’t mean you have to take 10 minutes every hour. If you’re planning to study for 5 hours in total you can take a 50min break in the middle, giving yourself a chance to do something more than grabbing a bite to eat. There are many things you can do to during your breaks to relieve stress, many of which you can find in the list of study break ideas below.

Things you should do on your study break:

  • Go out for a walk, this will give you some fresh crisp air, which is always stimulating after being inside for a while.
  • Have a stretch and sit down somewhere other than your desk for a few minutes to relax.
  • Do some exercises. Anything from going outside to going for a jog, to staying in your room and doing crunches is good for revitalizing your mind and body.
  • Do some reading, make sure it entertains you.
  • Spend some time on a hobby; you could have a project that you are devoted to completing during your study breaks. Super productive!
  • Have a healthy and light snack to eat.

Things you shouldn’t do on your study break:

  • Watch TV – You can watch discovery channel, but not garbage that will turn your mind off.
  • Eat a heavy meal as this will make you tired, and before you know it you will be sleeping.
  • Don’t use social networks as a study break, it’s all too easy to get absorbed and without realizing it you may have lost an hour or two.

Just remember that good study break ideas are ones that you enjoy and look forward to, and one that makes you feel rejuvenated and refocused to charge back into your studying for the remainder of the night.

Beating Procrastination At College – Improving Your Campus Wellness

When at college one of the biggest things students find hard to manage is their time. This is easily understandable when you think about the amount of study, work and social events that students want to attend. They often over stretch themselves to thin leading to a loss of performance in one, if not all three of those previously mentioned areas. Being overstretched could also lead to a lack of proper sleep and proper nutrition which is detrimental to studying and overall performance. If your body is not properly looked after it slowly begins to not work as well as it used too, leading to decreased productivity when it comes to managing study sessions and working shifts and overall campus wellness. Students who are overstretched often begin procrastinating, instead of sitting down and completing their homework.  It is these stages of procrastination that truly make managing time even harder. Let’s look into the reason why procrastination occurs at college and what you can do about it.

Complicated hard work – When faced with a complex problem that is not truly understood and how to go about tackling said problem, a student might find themselves procrastinating as it’s the easier option.  The best way to tackle a big problem is to break it down into its smaller parts. This way you can tackle the complicated project in easy to manage stages.

Underestimating your time – It’s all too easy to think you will have 4 hours at the end of the day to do your homework, but what happens when your friends come knocking and you head out for a game of football. It’s these last minute activities that allow you to procrastinate instead of using your time to study. Make a calendar and block out sections specifically for college work. Make sure you stick to them and be firm with your friends when they want you to come out.

Focus – Losing focus or a lack of focus in the beginning is one of the many reasons procrastination occurs. It’s often the little distractions that cause us to lose sight of our commitments when it comes to completing the homework that has been assigned. Turn off and remove all distractions that you know will impede your work process. This includes cell phones, Facebook, the TV and video games.

It may be hard at first overcoming the urge to procrastinate, but once you have, you will feel a much better. Knowing that you can get back to managing your time and effectively juggling your academic, work and social lives without one impeding the other anymore and improving your campus wellness will help you get everything done that you need to get done while also keeping time free for everything else.

Should A Portion Of The Student Activities Fund Be Allocated To Promoting Wellness On Campus?

I have a student activities client who decided to create a line item for wellness activities within their yearly budget. The concept was that a portion of the funds would be allocated toward activities that promote student wellness, or well being.

With so many students carrying an inordinate amount of stress from the demands of college, work and all that goes all long with the growing pains of becoming a self sufficient contributing person in society, I think we owe it to our students to help them learn how to cope. We owe it to them to help them avoid burn out and learn to enjoy the ride we called life.

How great would it be if as part of the college experience students learned how to manage their stress levels so that they could enjoy the process of pursuing and obtaining their goals and dreams.

Yes, many schools have a health and wellness department on campus but many of them do not have the funds to carry out extensive programs. Students don’t tend to take an active interest as they do with other departments, so health and wellness departments are not heavily influenced by student opinion or input.

When students think of the term “student activities” they do not think of health, wellness or stress reduction. Students think about the fun activities. Yes, student activities are about fun and fun can certainly relieve stress, but the intention with fun is not always about giving students the tools that they need to actively manage their stress on a regular basis. Instead of planning strictly fun activities, why not choose to plan an activity that is fun, but that also give students the tools that they need to deal with the stress that they inevitably encounter during college life. How about showing students through experience the value of taking action to relieve or prevent the pitfalls of stress?

Learning positive ways, such as massage therapy, of dealing with stress can be enjoyable, fun, relaxing and energizing. The choice between having a carnival or a stress relief program shouldn’t really be a question. The mindset behind one or the other is completely different. It’s not the same as hey, “Lets bring a band in or a magic show.” This is a choice between something that prepares students long term, or a short term solution. I would love to hear thoughts from people who are in student activities, working on college campuses and attending students.

The Benefits Of A Study Group

Study groups are an efficient and excellent way of using the collective knowledge of your friends to work smarter not harder when it comes to school exams and papers. The last thing you want when studying is stress. One of the most nagging parts of having to study is that you are often alone in a room working for hours on end which is often depressing. With a study group you work together with your friends and student companions towards a common goal. You are still surrounded by  meaning that you can easily take a break and re-energize your mind and body. The benefits of a study group are remarkable for all involved. Below are some of the more common benefits.

1.       With a scheduled study group that you have to attend several times a week you will find that you are unable to procrastinate. Due to the peer pressure of attending a study group from your friends you are less likely to sit in your room and procrastinate than if you were to study on your own. By all heading out the library, park or any other suitable place you will be more focused on studying than the lure of Facebook and day old pizza when on your own. Procrastination can only lead to frustration and might even have health consequences.

2.       When working with other people you will find that the rate at which you study increases. You will essentially learn faster as you pool your collective knowledge into solving a problem. The effect of studying with friends means it becomes competitive which can be beneficial for covering a new topic quickly.

3.       You can find new perspectives on subjects that you would have otherwise never stumbled upon. The way in which other people think can often surprise you. This is incredibly beneficial in those subjects were you need to form arguments and opinions on topics such as sociology, science or historical events. Two heads are always better than one.

4.       Last of all you and your friends will all learn new study skills which on the whole will improve the way in which you study, your rate of study and the absorption of the material at hand. As you study on your own you develop specific skills that work for you, some are good and some not so good. When studying with other people you can evaluate their skills which may in the end allow you to study smarter in the future.

It’s fairly evident that being in a study group is a great way to break the monotony of studying alone and an even better way in which to learn new skills and techniques. When choosing the location of where to meet for a study group make sure that you and your friends can be left alone in peace while you study without any major interruptions.

Sleep, Nutrition & Sleep – The Trinity Of Educational Success

Studying is a stressful enough task without constantly losing focus and energy due to a poor lifestyle while trying to cram for your late assignments or the upcoming test you have to take. Without a proper routine during college, it is all too easy to become overwhelmed with the task at hand. This can lead to a feeling that you are drowning in the stress and workload commitments that come with achieving excellent grades at college. It is therefore in everybody’s interests that you find a routine that will help you to meet your commitments without feeling overwhelmed. This is where the trinity of educational success comes into play; sleep, nutrition and exercise.

Sleep

With jobs, studying, socializing, extracurricular activities and everything else that students try to cram into every single day, sleep is often one of the last that you will think about. Yet without proper sleeping patterns you will begin to feel more and more drained as the days go by, leading to a loss in concentration, productivity and focus. Although running your life on naps seems like a good idea it doesn’t allow the body to reach the vital stages of sleep that are required to repair and revitalize your body. It often takes a few hours to reach your deep sleep phase, which is the crucial phase for lasting wellness.  It is therefore essential that you aim to get at least 6 hours solid sleep each night to be fighting fit every day to meet and exceed your commitments.

Nutrition

Eating properly is essential if you wish to feel energized for those long days of lectures and study. It’s far too easy to skip dinners and survive on junk food and ramen when at college, however your body will not be receiving the right nutrition for you to perform as well as you can at college. It’s important to eat 3 solid meals each day which can be subsidized with 2 snacks for when you need that extra boost. Eat healthy fresh foods and healthy carbs such as whole-wheat grains and oats to provide long lasting energy throughout the day.

Exercise

Last of all in the trinity of educational success is exercise but this is by far not the least. Good exercise, combined with proper nutrition and sleep, will put your body back in sync. For starters, it allows you to keep fit which improves not only your physical stamina but also your mental ability, perfect for those nights you stay up late studying and surviving on pizza. A quick jog or some time spent in the gym will leave you feeling relaxed, detoxed and energized. At the same time exercise also increases the happy chemicals (serotonin) leading to a greater sense of fulfillment at college.

Try to meet the holy trinity of educational success daily if you can, providing your body with the right tools; sleep, nutrition and exercise will allow you to perform better under the stresses of college.  By keeping your body and mind perfectly balanced you will be better able to balance the commitments of college.

What Is Eyebrow Threading?

The right shape of eyebrow can have a dramatic effect on your face, as well as your confidence. The right eyebrow with the perfect arch will help open and frame your eyes, and make you look wide awake and full of natural beauty. It can be hard to create the perfect eyebrow shape to suit your face at home, so Massage on the Go USA is pleased to include the ancient technique of brow threading among it’s services.

What is eyebrow threading?

Eyebrow threading is a very old and time honored method of hair removal, originally popular in Arabic and Central Asian countries, and now fast gaining popularity in the West. It is a quick and clean technique that promises a much crisper line than plucking or waxing. The practitioner uses a double strand of cotton thread. With one end secured between the teeth of the practitioner, the other end held in his or her left hand, and the middle section looped around the unwanted hairs the eyebrow is carefully shaped. The hairs are pulled out, with minimal damage to the sensitive area around the eye, creating the ideal shape.

What are the benefits of eyebrow threading?

There are many reasons for the rising popularity of threading in the US. For starters, the whole process is chemical-free, ideal for those with sensitive skin or who have experienced allergic reactions to the chemicals found in wax or hair removal cream. Only a double strand of cotton thread is used, which also speeds up prep time. In fact, threading both eyebrows often takes less than 15 minutes, perfect for fitting into your lunch break!

Many people favor this particular method of hair removal for its ability to create a crisp eyebrow shape that lasts for weeks. Threading is an incredibly precise method of hair removal, making it much easier for you to get the eyebrow shape you’re looking for. It’s even possible to remove an entire row of hairs in one go, giving you that much sought after shape. As well as giving you an unbelievable eyebrow shape, the results are proven to last for up to six weeks, as the entire hair follicle is removed.

While this technique has gained popularity in recent years, it can still be hard to find a well-trained practitioner of threading in the US. Don’t hesitate to contact us about a campus visit today and inquire as to our other services that we offer such as massage workshops, aromatherapy and many more holistic options.

Hand Massage For Yourself And Others

For those of you, who are still yearning for a wonderful massage experience, then you need wait no longer. Today we bring you a short guide on how to massage yours or someone else’s hands. This can be great to relieve the stress from studying, bond with your friends or to create some sensual time with your partner. Just the follow the guide and you will be off to a great start:

  • Before you start you need to consider that a good massage should be frictionless so you will need to lubricate your hands before you start. By lubricating your hands it makes it a nicer massage which is will be better for all parties involved.
  • There are many options you can use to lubricate your hands. For those of you on a budget some simple lotion will do or olive oil if you have any lying around. You could use one of the many body butters on the market to moisturize your recipient’s hands.
  • Once you have applied the lotion grasp your friends hand by the wrist and start to rub their hands in a circular motion.
  • Spend lots of time on their fingers and be sure to massage from tip to knuckle to get the best results.
  • When massaging each finger change the pressure from a soft touch to a firmer one as you reach their finger tip, apply pressure on top of the nail when you go past it too.
  • Once the fingers are complete, it’s time to move onto the body of the hand. So using your fingers massage deep into their palms from knuckle to wrist and the same on the outer sides of their hands. Be sure to be gentle as the bones are more easily accessible on the outer side of their hands.

The best way to fully experience the effects of massage is to have Massage On The Go USA come and visit your campus for a whole day event. We offer a whole plethora of activities for everybody to enjoy including chair massages, refreshments from our tiki bar, an oxygen bar and much more.

Different Types Of Massage

Have you ever wondered what all the different types of massage actually are and what they are specifically used for? Well today is your day as we take a look at the 5 most popular types of massage therapies.

1) Swedish Massage Therapy

Swedish Massage is one of the most popular massages available in the United States. It is also referred to as just massage therapy. Therapists use a variety of movements to relax your body. They use long gliding movements often in a circular fashion with the help of relaxing oils. This style of massage is remarkably gentle and incredibly relaxing to the lucky recipient.

2) Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy Massage is the same as a Swedish massage but with the introduction of scented plant oils, such as rose oil or lavender oil to help soothe specific problems. All of the oils at the therapist’s disposal have a different effect on the recipient. Some are relaxing and stress reducing while others energize and vitalize the soul. Aromatherapy is best for when you are particularly stressed as the oils really do help to overcome stress.

3) Hot Stone Massage

This massage involves the use of heated stones that are placed on specific parts of your body. The therapist will either apply the stones and leave them there for the duration of the massage or use the stones together with gentle pressure so that their effect is felt deeper within the body. This is the perfect choice of massage for those that have muscle tension, but do not like the vigorous movements of a deep massage.

4) Deep Tissue Massage

Much like the name implies, this massage works on the deep tissues, the deep layers of muscle and the connective tissues. This technique involves slow but firm strokes against the grain of your muscle. This style of massage is best suited for those with tight or painful muscles, postural problems or who are recovering from an injury. You will feel sore after a deep tissue massage, but this is normal for such an intensive massage.

5) Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese inspired massage. It uses localized pressure in a rhythmic sequence on the same places that an acupuncturist would utilize for his results.  The pressure is held for 2-8 seconds to regain the bodies balance and improve the flow of energy throughout your body. This is a relaxing yet firm massage therapy and there is no soreness afterwards.

If you would be interested in booking a massage for your campus, or to host a workshop where you and your friends can learn some massage techniques then please contact us at Massage on the Go USA to find out more.

Give Yourself A Foot Massage

You have been pining and craving for another massage since Massage on the go USA last came to your campus. You just want to find that relaxed and enjoyable frame of mind once again. Though it is a bit hard to give yourself a full body massage, unless you have as many arms as the Hindu god Vishnu, there are ways to help yourself relax. What you can do for yourself (or even for your partner – your choice) is a foot massage; while a foot massage will not compare to that chair massage you got from MOTG last time we visited, it is nevertheless a decadent experience for your feet and you will not regret giving this a go, especially if you do a lot of walking. Your feet will thank you.

You will need a few items before we can get down to giving yourself or your partner a very relaxing foot massage:

  • Comfortable place to sit or to lay down
  • Sensitive, soft wash cloths
  • Hot water in a container big enough for your feet
  • Foot lotion
  • Golf ball or a similar dimpled object
  • Soft socks or slippers

Now that you have your materials it’s time to get down to work. If this is for yourself find a comfy chair, if it’s for your partner lay them down, but later they will need to be sitting up.

Dunk your wash cloth in the hot water. Lather it up with soap and then ring out the water to leave the cloth damp, and nicely warm.

Take some time and wash your feet with the soapy cloth; be sure to spend extra time rubbing and caressing your or your partner’s feet. Spend as much time as you want with this, we are not in a hurry. Remember, we are trying to relax. Once finished, rinse your feet with a clean washcloth and gently dry before the next step.

This is the interesting part, if you are ticklish this will be great. Put the golf ball or a similar object under your foot and roll back and forth for up to 30sec at a time. You should be able to feel the great sensations from this right away. You could also try rolling the golf ball around in a circular motion and adjust the pressure as you feel comfortable. Repeat this all on the other foot as well.

This next part can get messy, but it’s worth it. It’s time to grab the foot lotion and get massaging. This is a great time for you and your partner to bond and enjoy the moment. If you don’t have foot lotion you can use whatever you have available, coconut butter or olive oil for instance. Make sure to reach and work every part of your feet – the toe pads, heel, ankle, arches, in between your toes. Really spend some time rubbing the lotion or oil into your feet, not only will this feel great it will also keep your feet smooth and soft.

Put on some clean and comfy socks or a great pair of slippers and just let the oil or lotion soak in and do its work. If at all possible do this before bed and sleep with the socks on. You will have the most soft and supple feet when you wake up.

Hopefully, this will help you to take the edge off your craving for MOTG to come back and visit your campus, and not only that, you now have soft feet too! Should you like Massage on the Go USA to come back to campus, or to arrange a massage workshop, you should get in contact with us here.

Massage After Care Advice

You have just gotten your first massage after Massage on the Go USA visited your college, and now you’re not so sure on what to do following it. What you should to do is find some time to enjoy the experience and below are a few aftercare tips to let you keep that relaxed feeling for the rest of the day and beyond.

Following your massage you should head straight home and jump in a nice warm bath to sooth the muscles after they have thoroughly massaged. Add relaxing oils and Epsom salts to relax your muscles even more, and generally make it a more luxurious event.

In the 24 hours following your massage you should drink a great deal of water. You need to rehydrate your body after a quality massage like the ones we offer at Massage on the Go; this is because massage promotes movement within the lymphatic glands and by drinking water you will help to move the toxins in your body through your kidneys and out of the body for good. Remember drinking water is exactly that, coffee, tea, soft drinks and juices do not count! Just good quality tap or mineral water.

Be aware of how your body reacts to the massage. You may feel a slight soreness or be incredibly tired following your massage. This is partly due to a massage almost being a way of passively exercising. If you are suffering any soreness then apply some soothing oils to help calm the affected area, and if you happen to be incredibly relaxed, then enjoy the experience and make the most of that calm feeling you have obtained.

Take a nap. You are likely to feel tired after a massage and this is completely normal. Find somewhere quiet and recuperate from your massage – this is the time to recover and enjoy the experience that little bit longer. Make some time for yourself after your massage; don’t just head back to studies or work. Listen to what your mind and body is telling you and allow yourself to recover. You’ll be glad you did in the long run!

If you have enjoyed your experience with Massage on the Go, then you should consider booking us again to come down to the campus and give you and all of your friends that relaxed feeling once more. We also offer training in how to give your friends massages and this would make an excellent experience for anyone wishing to have a great sorority get together.

6 Ways To Combat Stress In College

As a college student, being stressed over your studies is pretty much a way of life. In recognition of that, we wanted to give you a few methods to help you overcome that stressed and exhausted feeling.

  • One of the easiest ways to help alleviate the symptoms of stress at college is to work on your time management skills. Poor time management skills result in constant pressures. One of the most concerning threats for many students is that of not meeting deadlines and having things pile up that all end up due at the same time. An easy and effective way to help with your time management issues is to make a habit of making to do lists, and allotting the work you have to do into manageable 30 minute or 1 hour sections – then stick to the timetables you make.
  • Having rest and leisure time will also do wonders in beating that stressed out feeling. If you over work yourself every day, seven days a week, it will be no wonder when you feel stressed. Try to allow yourself at least one day a week to recuperate from your labors, and don’t forget to get a good night’s sleep every night.
  • Give yourself regular breaks when studying. Try to stick to your well thought out study plan; it should include regular breaks of at least ten minutes. This will allow your eyes some time to rest and for you to stretch out your muscles after sitting down for some time.
  • If you are behind with your studies, don’t let it all stack up, allocate extra time to get through the back log. Once you have gotten through your entire back log, you will find a weight lifted from your shoulders and you will start to feel so much more relaxed. However, it is important to remember to take breaks, even when you are trying to catch up.
  • Going for a jog or hitting the gym is a proven and effective way of relieving stress. It allows the body to detox and gets the blood pumping and the endorphins running.  You don’t have to go running or lift weights though – you could just grab some exercise around the house, such as yard work, active housework, or walking the dog.
  • Consider getting a massage to relive your stress. It’s a cost effective and fun way to help with the daily pressures of being a student. Massage On The Go could even bring a whole team of masseurs and provide chair massages for everyone in your class, dormitory, or sorority. A day with Massage On The Go is an excellent way to bond with friends and relax at college, you can find out about the services they offer here.

Hopefully after trying one or two of these tips you will find yourself in a nice, relaxed frame of mind, ready to tackle your studies this semester.

Don’t Let Stress Eat Away Your Meals

Stress has become one of the foremost causes of human illness, causing sicknesses ranging from depression, cardiac problems, and sleep deprivation to digestive disorders. Modern life has burdened one and all with some form of anxiety or another. To top it all off, most of us live a fast paced life, where we work hard and party even harder, and sooner or later our body starts giving way.

One of most common stress disorders (prominence of which is increasing by the day) is GERD. GERD refers to Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, a condition in which our digestive system descends into total chaos and can cause severe heartburn due to the acid from the stomach entering into the Esophagus (food pipe). The symptoms of GERD begin with general indigestion resulting in bloated stomachs after meals, burping and at times having a sour (acid) taste in the mouth. Initial symptoms are generally mild and settle down by taking prescription medicines.

If not controlled, however, GERD can lead to severe problems which not only result in disruption of normal life, but become a constant source of embarrassment. GERD may also induce a nagging cough which can become quite bothersome.

Though prescription pills can help fight the symptoms of GERD, in order to treat GERD as a whole, we need to address the primary cause of the disease. In general, it has been found that stress and anxiety are both amongst the most common factors triggering GERD in individuals. Though we may not feel that we are under any particular stress at a conscious level, underlying stress (in our subconscious) can wreak havoc on the body, and as a natural response to these stresses, our body sends signals that all is not well, in some form or the other, and many times in the form of GERD.

One of the treatments suggested for GERD is to have small meals, six times a day, at intervals of two hours each. Further, fibrous food and foods rich in probiotics are recommended. Exercise in open air is advised as one of the therapies.

It has been found that massage can help with GERD, as it helps to ease built up tension and assist in releasing this accumulated stress, resulting in relaxing the muscles and allowing the body organs to function better. A good massage session with correct techniques can help alleviate GERD symptoms, taking anywhere from ten days to two weeks, depending on your stress levels in this interim period.

Massage essentially addresses the problem of chronic stress, which has been developed within the body, along with ongoing tension and stress. Due to this continuous onslaught of stress, our body muscles are in a continuous state of tension, and this tension needs to be released and relaxed.

Massage on the Go can help you with various massage techniques, which work to increase the blood circulation and reduce muscle pains.  Massage therapists are adept in treating digestive disorder problems and at times use a combination of massage techniques, such as Shiatsu, or Tui Na, which may help with releasing the tension and relaxing the muscles and tissues in the abdominal area, around the stomach and esophagus. Increased blood circulation always helps in better nourishment being received by these tissues, and leads to the overall improvement of your health.

Students tend to take digestive problems lightly, not realizing the long term consequence of doing so. Student life is not always easy and is subject to severe stress and strains from all departments, and if you feel your stomach is acting up on a regular basis, you must consult a general physician and have yourself checked for early symptoms of GERD. If diagnosed with GERD, massage can go a long way in helping you lead a normal and comfortable life. For consultation and queries about how massage can help your GERD problems, you should talk to an expert therapist today and reap benefits tomorrow.

Chair Massage – Sit Down And Beat The Stress

Most students wait with baited breath for the day they will enter college and have loads of excitement and fun. It is undoubtedly one of the best times in many people’s lives. College life gives you the opportunity to meet new friends, participate in loads of activities and potentially find your soul mate. However, with all this excitement, college life also brings along many unique stresses. Stress to perform well in your studies; worries about being accepted into a group of friends; stress caused by strong peer pressure effects; and many more.

Exam time can be the the most stressful period for many students, and this includes students with all levels of academic ability. It is not uncommon to find students slightly moody or on edge during this period, and at times overcome with feelings of despair, insecurity, loss of mental focus and more than anything, fatigue and exhaustion.

Stress Management has become one of the most important issues in universities, and college boards are educating students about methods to de-stress, enabling students to perform well not only in exams, but in life.

One of the latest stress busting techniques being adopted around the country is the chair and full body massage. Research has shown that massage is highly effective in reducing stress and calming the inner anxieties that a person may be carrying around. Even a short 5 -15 minutes of chair massage can help students focus and improve mental alertness.

High stress levels have been a proven factor of ill health and a suppressed immune system for many years. Accumulated stress, if not released in the right way, can damage our health far more than we would expect. Initial signs are fatigue and tiredness during day to day activities and frequent illness. It is a proven scientific finding that massage helps in relieving accumulated stress by removing the harmful toxins from our system. Further, massage assists in increasing circulation within the body, which in turn ensures proper nourishment of our muscles and organs.

Massage sessions are being offered at discounted rates to students to encourage students to go for regular sessions, and prevent them from falling into the vicious cycle of stress and all the ill effects that come along with it.

One favorite massage routine among students is the chair massage. This routine was essentially designed to help students relax in a very short span of time, allowing them to feel rejuvenated and fresh. Chair massage therapy sessions can last from five minutes to up to thirty minutes, and are done with your clothing on. It essentially focuses on primary stress and tension areas in your neck, shoulder, arms and back.

Chair massage sessions are much shorter than the conventional massage and are therefore easier for students to fit into their busy study (and play) schedule. Also the cost of chair massages are much lower and this makes it more popular with students. So don’t let your stress get the better of you. All you need is a quick massage from Massage on the Go and you’ll see the change for yourself.

Stress In College Life

Stress is a bodily, perceptual, and mental reaction caused by any change that can be good or bad. In college, many students face stress day in and day out due to their academic activities, extra-curricular activities and social life. Stress may have a positive or a negative impact on the individual, and how we deal with stress determines the effect that it will have.

Stress is not always bad. It can help a student to work hard for his/her final exam, win at sports, or meet any other related challenges in college. This type of stress is short lived and will typically subside when the challenge has been fulfilled, enabling a student to be relieved and continue with normal activities. This is called a positive stress. If a student is not able to manage stress in a practical manner, chances are that he or she will face academic or health problems. Health issues can be high blood pressure, muscular tensions, mental and physical exhaustion among many others. Negative stress can be relieved by having a massage to help you relieve your stress.

Symptoms of Stress

When does a person encounter stress? When someone feels a threat or pressure to perform, make a decision or there is a life changing event. For a student this might fear of failing an exam, his body prepares him to fight against those threats. Certain functional disturbances occur in the body while the stress exists. Once a person remedies a particular threat or finds a way to ameliorate the symptoms in order to deal with the stress, making decisions becomes much easier. Some signs of stress are listed below:

  • Problems eating or sleeping.
  • Consumption of alcohol or other drugs.
  • Problems in making decisions.
  • Becoming anxious over unimportant events.
  • Lack of concentration in study.
  • Weakness and dizziness.
  • Increased frustration with minor annoyances.
  • Nightmares.
  • Changes in your exercise habits.
  • Frequent headaches, backaches, muscle aches or tightness in the stomach.
  • Frequent indigestion, diarrhea, or urination and acidity.
  • Frequent colds and infections.
  • Frequent accidents and minor injuries.

Tips for college students to handle stress:

Some of the physical and mental techniques to handle the stress are:

  • Get a massage, it can be a very fast way of helping you get out of stress. A quick massage from Massage on the Go can work wonders sometimes.
  • Relax in a comfortable chair. Breathe deeply through your nose. Count to three and feel your chest expand. Hold your breath momentarily, and then release it. Repeat this task until you can momentarily take yourself away from your stress.
  • Take a break from work and enjoy fresh air and do some exercise.

Beating Winter Stress

As the winter begins to set in on and take its toll on people, their bodies have to struggle even more to adjust with the plunging thermometer. With cold winter comes chilly winds and along come aching bones, seasonal depression, and the ‘gift pack’ of illnesses that undoubtedly take a heavy toll on us throughout the winter. If you are a student, you have more stress to deal with when it’s the fall or winter semester. Massage on the Go can be an excellent option for all students for ailments that come along with this cold. Although massage therapy is thought to be as a specialty procedure, it is becoming more and more common and accepted as a therapy method that is available to all.

If we’re not healthy we cannot help ourselves or others. If we are not healthy we cannot perform at our highest level. Often, we place ourselves last on our list of priorities. Our parents, children, friends, the cooking, cleaning, shopping and the laundry all come first before us in that list. When we place ourselves last, we fail to notice many of the things that happen in our own bodies.

Illnesses often begin when our body is in a state of distress. Illnesses are resisted by our immune system, and it is up to us to ensure that our bodies have the proper diet, exercise and stress relief that it needs to fully function. If you are fatigued, so is your immune system. You need to help keep your immune system up and running!  If you are as student, how can you prepare for exams when you are sick? And can you imagine dropping lectures only because you couldn’t get up in the morning due to fatigue and an inability to get out of bed? Finding a way to relax is a great way to ensure that your immune system is able to make sure that your immune system is up to the rigors of winter and the demands of college life. Many college students will be working on a limited budget, so one of the great ways to relax is a 5 minute chair massage. It is inexpensive, fast and a time honored method for relaxation.

Recent research has shown that both immediately after a massage and over the course of a massage therapy period, the body’s level of cortisol (the stress hormone that is responsible for lowering the body’s immune function) prominently decreased while neurotransmitters dopamine, serotonin (hormones involved in mood swings, cognition, motivation, pleasure, appetite and sleep patterns), and endorphin (the body’s very own natural pain killer) levels increased considerably. In addition to all the many other benefits we just discussed, receiving massage on a regular basis throughout the winter can definitely help alleviate anxiety and depression that you might have. It will also help decrease fatigue with a more restful sleep, and will boost your overall sense of well-being and health.

Why Should You Get A Massage?

Have you taken note of the ever increasing popularity of massage therapy? It’s all about the beneficial way it affects your body. In the modern world, massage is generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine. It’s increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations. Massage can be a powerful tool to help you take charge of your health and well-being, whether you have a specific health condition or are just looking for another way to relieve stress. How can massage therapy help you?

Relieving Pain: In the hands of a skilled masseuse people suffering from chronic pain or certain types of injury can experience immediate, partial, or temporary relief which will contribute to their quality of life immensely. Many a times, massage is used in conjunction with physical therapy, hydrotherapy, and medication to manage injury-related pain.

Easing Your Tension: A massage can relax those worn muscles and limbs relieving the physical tension caused by standing at your job all day or carrying a book bag. Students often have no idea how those heavy books affect their posture as well as their shoulder and back muscles.

Relaxing Inflamed Muscles: If you are into sports, and play often, the chances are that at times you overdo it or perhaps pull a muscle that has not warmed up properly. Seeking your doctor’s consent, consider getting a massage to ease the tension and soreness of limbs damaged by sports-related injuries.

Improving Blood Circulation: If you’re feeling sluggish, perhaps because you sit at a desk all day, or just don’t get enough exercise, a massage can help to stimulate your body tissues and improve circulatory flow. For some people, massage results in the lowering of blood pressure and improve pulse rates to actually contribute to the overall improved health.

Reducing Stress: Do you have stiff muscles that cause tension headaches? A massage can be a great way to ease that tension, even if it is just a 5 minute chair massage. It can also help to free your mind of stressful events or difficult emotions, at least temporarily if not completely.
The benefits of massage are not limited to the ones listed above. These are just a very few of the long list of benefits that relate to many areas of life, from physical to emotional. Massage is not merely a touch, it’s much more than that, it can improve your life in ways you never expected. What are you waiting for? If you are a student or a housewife or an office worker, go ahead and enjoy the exciting benefits of massage.

A Healthy Diet And Exercise Plays A Part In Student Life

When you are a student, what is your key asset? Arguably, your mind and body. So it is of utmost importance that you take the best care possible of your body. This includes (but of course isn’t limited to) regular exercise and a healthy diet. How many students can honestly say that they get the recommended 30 minutes of exercise a day? Nothing can replace this exercise of course, but sometimes things simply don’t work out the way you want them to, and that’s when its of even more importance to look for other ways to take care of yourself.

Taking a few minutes out of your day to go and get a massage will not only feel great at the time and relax you, but it also revives your body, releasing toxins and freeing aching muscles, often caused by spending many hours at your desk. Massage can also reduce the risk of developing Occupational Overuse Syndrome (OOS), which afflicts many more computer-using students than people might think. After having a massage, you will leave reenergized and in a much more positive frame of mind, ready to take on new challenges in your studies and assignments.

The other key part of taking care of your body is watching your diet, and here we only don’t mean avoiding that extra slice of pizza! A common misconception of the balanced diet is that people often think they have to totally abstain from some of their favorite foods – in reality you need to pay attention to moderation, or making healthier versions of your favorites, but eating foods from all the main food groups is important. The benefits of eating a healthy, balanced diet are plentiful, and include higher energy levels, better quality sleep and reduced risk of many illnesses, including diabetes and heart disease. Surely that’s motivational! Eating a healthy diet has another positive – it often makes you want to exercise more.

Massage on The Go can also help you out here, with our Tiki bars providing you with the perfect opportunity to boost your daily fruit intake with our delicious smoothies, made just for you, while you wait. Of course, they also offer piping hot coffees, mocktails or cocktails depending on the event.

A balanced diet in combination with an active lifestyle has been proven to improve concentration and memory, both of which are of huge importance to students! Why not go one step further and add the benefits of a quick massage too?!

Questions To Ask Your Massage Therapist

Finding a good massage therapist can be difficult. Massage On The Go takes the hard part out of finding a great massage therapist. We hire only the best and most highly qualified to conduct events on college campuses across the country. There are questions and other considerations to discuss before having a massage.

It is not unreasonable to have a few questions for your massage therapist before you have your first session. Asking these questions may make you feel more comfortable about the treatments you intend to have. Here are some sample questions to consider:

Ask them about their education. Where did they receive their certification? What are their areas of expertise?
How much experience do they have? Have they been in the massage industry for several years? Are they accustomed to working with college students?
Where else have they worked? This information will give you a feel for which massage therapist you will be most comfortable working with. If they have spent a great deal of time working with college students, the therapist will have a great understanding of the stress and pressures that college students experience.
What modalities are they trained in? Are they trained in reflexology, aromatherapy, and different massage techniques?
What is their reason? Why did they choose this field? The answer to this question will make the student feel more comfortable with the massage session.

Along with the qualifying questions that may be asked of the massage therapist, one should also consider giving certain information to the therapist prior to your session. If prior health conditions exist, these should be brought to the attention of the therapist. This may have a direct effect on how the massage therapist “works” on your body. It is important to be completely open and honest with your massage therapist because that is the only way the chair massage can be truly effective.

One will also want to discuss their physical activity and their diet, both of these can directly affect the outcome of the massage. The student may also wish to discuss having a massage done with their doctor prior to sitting in the chair. A doctor can give the go-ahead in regards to whether it is in the student’s best interest to have a massage session.

Ultimately, after all is said and done and the questions are adequately answered, the key is to relax and enjoy. The main purpose of a massage is relaxation. Once the student can sit back and reap the physical and mental benefits of a massage to the fullest, they will be eager to continue to utilize the services of a trained massage therapist provided by Massage On The Go.

Writing Down Goals Can Reduce Student Anxiety

Anxiety is a common part of the average college student’s life. What tips can be used on a daily basis to maintain a sense of balance? Are there simple and effective ways that students would latch on to in order to deal with stress? Can writing down goals and the things that stress you out help release tension?

Writing down goals is an excellent way to have a concrete visual representation of what one wants out of life. A popular thought is that being able to clearly envision what one desires will cause the manifestation of those goals. A great way to have a visual of one’s goals and dreams is to create a vision board.

The process of creating a vision board is simple. Sit down with a piece of poster board, a stack of magazines a pair of scissors and a glue stick. Mediate for a few minutes before starting, clearly thinking about what you want. After taking a few moments to ground yourself, start flipping through the magazines. Keep an eye out for anything that catches your attention. This can include words, phrases and pictures that are things that you want in your life. These elements can also symbolize future wants and needs as well. For example, if you want to spend vacations on the beach cut out pictures of surfing and boats. Once all of the pictures and words are cut out of the magazines, it’s time to get creative.

The creative and fun part of creating a vision board is arranging the pictures. Let your imagination run wild and create the vision of your future. You can write in any wants and goals that you couldn’t find pictures to represent. Once your vision board is finished, put it in a place where you will see it on a daily basis. This will be a constant reminder of your hopes and why you are working as hard as you are on your education.

Writing down goals and creating a visual representation can reduce anxiety because you are creating a road map for your life. When goals are all out on the table a clear picture is formed specific steps can be taken to lead in the right direction. This creates a measure of comfort and being comfortable creates an environment where stress can’t thrive. This is crucial for students, the environment for students is stressful by nature. To combat stress take the time to create a vision board. Consider making the event social by inviting over some friends. You and your friends can discuss how stress impacts the lives of college students while actively working on a solution. Have a vision board party where everyone can share their dreams, hopes and create a stress-free environment.

Keep College Stress Under Control

Increased stress is a factor that all new college students must endure. It simply is a fact of life when beginning higher education. That does not mean that it is unmanageable. Elements of college life can increase stress that results in extremely negative side effects for the students. Finding keys to manage that stress can combat these negative consequences, making the college experience enjoyable, not excruciating. What are the leading causes of stress for the new college student? What can a college student do to deal with stress? How can a university or college assist the student in dealing with stress? The type of stress experienced by the student falls into two categories, academic and social.

Academic stress is common for all students. The classroom setting has changed dramatically and the courses that are taken can be extremely demanding. If the student is carrying a heavy course load, they are left with very limited time to socialize and relax. Often, what is sacrificed in order to devote more time to studies and other course work are sleep and proper nutrition. It is common for a student to think that they are able to perform at their best when getting a minimal amount of sleep. The human body requires close to eight hours of sleep to function properly and depriving the body of needed rest can have negative consequences. The consequences can be issues in focusing or paying attention, forgetfulness, increased anxiety, decrease in hygienic practices and increased irritability. Without the necessary sleep, sustaining their best performance is unlikely for any student. It may seem that you are getting more things accomplished by pulling all nighters to cram during finals week, but in truth you are doing more harm than good. Academic stress can also cause negligent eating habits, also resulting in negative consequences.

Eating a balanced, healthy diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables is ideal for everyone, not just students. Although it is ideal, and your body will function better when you eat nutritious meals, it is common for students to simply grab what is cheap and convenient. Items such as fast food, easy to grab snacks that are loaded with carbohydrates and junk food often substitute a salad or balanced meal containing a lean protein and vegetables. Again, students may think they are saving time and energy by eating items that are quick and easy but in truth they are doing damage to their bodies. The results of not eating properly can include fatigue, irritability, digestive complications and problems with retaining information. When the student manages to eat a balanced diet along with getting a proper amount of sleep they will see an increase in memory and energy, both crucial elements for scholastic success.

Along with proper sleep and proper diet, another tool that can be used to combat the negative effects of stress among the student population is massage. A simple five-minute chair massage can rebalance the body, producing benefits such as more energy, better digestion and the feeling of being grounded and centered. Combine diet, sleep and massage and the student will have the tools necessary to deal with the factors that cause increased stress while attending college.

Learn Something New And Exciting With A Massage Workshop

Have you ever considered a career in the massage industry? Do you wish you knew some of the professional techniques so that you could try them at home? Do you want to learn more about the art of massage? Then having a massage workshop on your campus is a great idea. You can learn, alongside others, how to do some of the basics and have fun while learning.

Massage On The Go USA offers training workshops, where you can get “hands on” experience about the world of massage. You will learn some tricks of the trade, how to avoid tired and sore hands after giving a massage, the proper way to give a massage and a routine massage method that will allow you to give a nearly professional ten minute massage. Trained massage professionals use all of these elements, and now students have access to the same information via a workshop. The benefits of massage for students are vast, with the most important being stress relief. Stress is a huge factor for college students. The lifestyle that students live is fast paced, task oriented and at times overwhelming. Taking ten minutes a day to de-stress and balance can produce positive results. Included in these results are:
• Improved digestion.
• Improved sleep habits and getting higher quality rest.
• Experiencing fewer headaches.
• Over all improved physical and mental sense of well-being.
• Less occurrence of muscle aches and pains.
• Ability to deal with the stress of college life.
Learning how to cope with stress is worth taking the time to attend a massage training workshop. Students will experience high stress situations where they may not be able to schedule a massage at that particular moment. Using the techniques they have learned, students will be able to relieve some of their stress before seeking out a professional for proper stress maintenance. This can save student’s time and money, which are both things that student’s value.

A massage workshop takes one to two hours, similar to the length of a standard class at the university. The information and techniques learned during this workshop can be used on your own body or on friends and family. This is a great way for students to pay it forward, by using their newly learned skills of massage to help friends and family members. Consider having a workshop on your campus as a great extracurricular activity. Students will flock to this event because it is both interesting and useful. The benefits are improved health and learning something that will help others. Who knows, you may even consider changing majors and pursuing a fulfilling career in massage therapy.

Pamper Yourself With A Manicure

Do you pamper your hands? Do you take proper care of your skin and nails? Hands are used on a daily basis and the skin is exposed to elements that could have negative effects. Hands should be protected and nails should be manicured to protect them from becoming cracked, chapped and irritated. Adding a manicure service to the massage event at your campus can achieve this. Massage On The Go USA, depending on the size of the group, offers both full manicures and mini-manicures. Both services are beneficial. Manicures are a great way to be pampered. They help your hands look more aesthetically pleasing and they relieve stress in the hands as well as helping you moisturize them and get rid of those pesky hangnails to name just a few of the relaxation and health benefits.

Manicures are a way to reduce stress. They allow you to sit back and relax, a great way to unwind after a tough day of exams. Stress is a major factor in the lives of college students and having a manicure helps combat the negative effects of stress on their bodies. These negative effects can include headaches, digestive problems and difficulty sleeping. Manicures are also a lot of fun. You can choose from all kinds of colors and nail art designs to match your mood, your outfit and just about anything you can think of on the day. They are a great way for students to bond and be social while taking care of their hand health. Along with being fun, manicures serve a function for good health as well. After all, we do carry a lot of stress in our hands.

Having manicures done on a regular basis can reduce fungus and hangnails. They also promote healthy nail growth. Manicures are also a great way to take care of your skin.
The skin on your hands is delicate and needs to be taken care of carefully and faithfully. Manicures provide exfoliation that slough off dry skin and provide moisture that is needed to prevent dry, chapped and irritated skin. Also, when you have a manicure done, you are less likely to abuse the skin on your hands. Manicures promote proper maintenance of your nails and protect your hands from outside elements. Outside environmental elements affect every student’s hands as they walk from class to class in all kinds of inclement weather. Everyone can benefit from a manicure.

Manicures are not just for women, men can enjoy the benefits of manicures. Having manicures at your event on campus can even be a treat for the staff and professors. Everyone can enjoy the multitude of benefits that come with getting a manicure on a regular basis, once a month is considered optimal. Massage On The Go U.S.A. offers manicures on different campus locations as an additional service. If this is a service you want on your campus, contact your activities department and tell them about us.

A Breath Of Fresh Air

An Oxygen Bar is a great addition to your campus massage event. Every station can have different scented oxygen which is fun and healthy! Aromatic scents that have different properties can stimulate or relax the individual during their oxygen session. During your session you will be offered oxygen through a nasal hose. The atmosphere of the oxygen bar is relaxed and calm, inducing a sense of Zen while enjoying the many benefits that oxygen has on your body and on your mind. The air that we breathe in at an oxygen bar is 95% pure, while the oxygen we breathe from the air is 25% pure. Massage On The Go USA offers oxygen bars for different events across the country.

There are many benefits of increasing oxygen for a short period of time which can include:

• Memory Retention: Increasing your oxygen intake can make improvements to your ability to concentrate and retain information. This is particularly important for students around exam time.
• Aching Muscles: Oxygen bars are a huge asset for students that are fans of physical exercise. Very often our muscles ache because they are not receiving the optimum amount of oxygen. This could be due to any number of reasons, among them increased physical activity, sitting still too long, or even a poor diet. These are all things that are typical in the day to day life of a student.
• Relieve Stress: Stress is a huge factor for all college students and offering a natural way to relieve stress by increasing their oxygen intake will enable students to relax, and have a more positive learning experience.
• Circulation: The more oxygen that your body has the better it is able to carry healthy blood to your organs and tissues.
• Energy: Who doesn’t need energy boost from time to time? A person who is not breathing well has a limited amount of oxygen in their system. Typically these people do not have much energy at all. If there is anything that a college student needs, it is energy!
• Headache: Oxygen can help ease tension and headaches which are two things that college students are prone to having.
• Sinus: Is it the middle of winter? Many college students suffer from sinus infections or chest colds. Increased oxygen will help them with these problems.

Oxygen bars can bring a great deal of attention to events that college campuses have organized. The benefits for the students are many and they are an original and interesting way to increase the oxygen in your body and reap the benefits, while also giving the school the chance to offer something unique that is helpful.

Wow That Smells Heavenly

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils, a process that has been around since ancient times. The oils are extracted from plants, bark, flowers, stems and leaves. Various ancient cultures (Egyptian, Chinese and Greek) used these essential oils to cure sickness and as preventative medicine. The healing powers found in these essential oils have the ability to balance, regulate and maintain the body’s natural defenses against disease and stress. In modern times, aromatherapy is an extremely successful part of homeopathic and holistic treatments. Regular use can strengthen the body’s natural immune system, giving an extra boost against ailments and disease. Aromatherapy is not just designed for use against physical illness, but for other forms of illness as well.

Aromatherapy is amazing at combating the signs and symptoms of illness brought about by the mind and spirit. Many times our body will physically manifest illness that stems from mental and spiritual malady. An example of this would be headaches. Headaches can be brought about from stress. Instead of popping a pill or suffering with a headache, consider a treatment that uses aromatherapy. The power of essential oils can aid in getting rid of that tension headache. Another great example of stress affecting our body’s in a negative manner is trouble sleeping. Jasmine (an essential oil) is known for its ability to help conquer those sleepless nights, leaving you refreshed and energized the next day. When using essential oils you are working with nature. In conjunction with massage you have a great way to incorporate aromatherapy into your life.

Combining massage with essential oils is an ideal way to try out different oils and see which ones give you the greatest benefit. With Massage On The Go U.S.A., you can take your time and smell the different oils that are available. Discussing which ailment you are working on will give the massage therapist the chance to tell you about the different benefits of certain oils. They might even have suggestions for what essential oil would work best. You will be able to test the oil on your skin, making sure that sensitivity isn’t a factor and sit back and enjoy the experience. The relaxed state that you as a student or faculty member experience after your massage with the essential oil will allow you to go about your tasks in a much more productive manner. This state will allow you to minimize stress and deal with it better. As a result you will sleep better and you will be ready to face the day. If safety over using essential oils is a concern, do not worry, there is minimal risk in using them.

Essential oils are not harmful; however it is recommended that you do a skin test. Oils can also be added or used with other things. Certain oils are better if combined with massage oil, used in your bath or even diffused into the air. If safety is a major concern, rest assured that essential oils are not harmful to humans. As an added bonus, they are not tested on animals. Thousands of years of human use have proved that essential oils are safe and effective in treating certain ailments.  Massage On The Go U.S.A. has an educated team that offers this service as an add-on in various academic institutions across the United States. Contact them today to bring this to your campus.

Eyebrow Threading – A Great Alternative To Waxing

Eyebrow threading started in the Middle East and has been an effective hair removal system for centuries. Considered extremely popular and used often by men and women in other countries, eyebrow threading is becoming popular in the United States. Celebrities are even using threading, which is causing it to get massive attention. Eyebrow threading is considered an extremely effective hair removal treatment, as opposed to tweezing or waxing.

The system of threading is done with one tool, a piece of one hundred percent cotton thread. This thread is twisted around the hair that is to be removed. The hairs are then woven into the thread and pulled out. The hair is removed one row at a time. The thread pulls the hair out by the root, which can cause a small amount of pain. However, if you have ever tweezed or waxed your eyebrows, the pain is not intense. Threading only pulls the hair, unlike waxing which can irritate the skin by pulling the skin along with the hair. Threading is preferred over tweezers due to the wrinkles that can be caused by excessive tweezing. These wrinkles are caused because of the tension of pulling the hair out from the root irritates the hair follicle and the surrounding skin. Because of the time it takes to thread the eyebrows, it is easier to get the desired shape of the eyebrow. This offers a more natural look. The skin surrounding your eye area will be smooth, which will allow for flawless makeup application. Threading is not only for your eyebrows.

Threading can be used on any part of your face where you have undesired hair. It is quite effective in dealing with hair that is above your lip. This treatment has the advantage of not using any harsh chemical, in point of fact, no chemicals are used period. As desirable as this process is, it is not suggested that you do this yourself at home. There is a specific type of training that must be done by a professional to learn the technique properly. This is not a do-it-yourself grooming technique.

Unlike waxing or tweezing, that can be done at home, eyebrow threading is best left to a trained individual. This service, combined with many additional services that we offer, is a treat for any college student. It is optimal for any formal events, like social functions or even Sorority and Fraternity Formals, where everyone wants to look their best. Eyebrow threading takes an average amount of time (usually the same as waxing) and having it easily accessible for students on campus will eliminate their need to find a salon where the cost may be high.

The price of threading, through us, is extremely affordable. Massage On The Go U.S.A offers eyebrow threading as an additional service on select college campuses across the country. If it is not offered, suggest it to the activities department and have them contact us.

Taking Stress Seriously

For many young adults, college is the optimal time of life. These years of adjustment can also be undermined by anxiety and uncertainty. College students are feeling overwhelmed and stressed, especially those that are about to graduate and enter the work force in one of the worst economic downturns that this country has ever seen. It is important that parents, teachers and college students themselves are aware and on the lookout for commons stressors, and know how to deal with them in order to make sure that students have a great college experience, and leave knowing that it was one of the best times of their lives.
